A vacuum cleaner? What? Out of all the cool things I have in my house, is the vacuum cleaner really the most fascinating? Leroy would stand outside the closet door where the vacuum cleaner lives chanting “da da da da da da” and other nonsense words until I would give in and open the door for him to see the most exciting thing ever - - the vacuum cleaner!

After lugging my $500 Dyson vacuum cleaner up and down the stairs for “Leroy” to play with, I finally broke down, gave in, and headed to Toys R Us to invest in something I promised myself I wouldn’t - - a toy vacuum cleaner for my son. Much to my surprise, there were several to choose from – there was a Dyson, a Fisher Price, and a Hoover! After carefully comparing all the toy vacuums, my husband and I decided on the Hoover, even though it’s age recommendation was 3 and up. We brought it home, opened it up, put the batteries in it, and turned little “Leroy” loose with his new vacuum! He absolutely loves the toy! And…to make him think it’s real just like Mommy’s, we leave it in the closet with my Dyson. Everyday, we go to our vacuum closet, get our Hoover out, and walk around the entire house with it. (We don’t turn it on though - - that’s a little scary). Once we’re through “cleaning” the house, we get out the hose attachments – yes - - it comes with a hose and several attachments – and have another round of “cleaning” the house with the attachments! What fun! In addition to being great entertainment for “Leroy”…it’s easy for me to carry up the stairs and it keeps him from possibly breaking my very expensive vacuum cleaner!
